Naturbeads commercializes an innovative solution to manufacture cellulose-based biodegradable and perfectly spherical microbeads. Those are a proven drop-in solution to replace the widely used plastic based products, today a growing pollution issue. Current commercially available microbeads used in cosmetics, paints, coatings, life science, etc. are mostly fossil fuel based products from non-renewable resources. From production to disposal, plastic’s carbon footprint is about 6 kg of CO2 per kg of plastic. The impact of plastic on the environment has reached alarming levels: according to ECHA, just in EU, every year more than 145,000 tons of plastic microbeads reach the oceans where they persist for centuries because they are non biodegradable. As fish and seafood ingest these substances, they enter the human food chain. Naturbeads cellulose based biodegradable beads aim at eliminating carbon positive microplastics with a cost competitive, technically equivalent solution thus contributing to clean growth, climate change mitigation and improving life on land and below water. Gill Jennings & Every LLP (GJE) are a leading firm of European Patent, Trade Mark and Design Attorneys. They collaborate with a number of accelerator and incubator organisations providing strategic intellectual property (IP) advice and support. To celebrate their involvement with CCUK, GJE are delighted to offer an initial complimentary intellectual property consultation to any members or partners of this exciting network. This initial consultation would provide an opportunity to discuss intellectual property with an experienced attorney, in the specific context of your business and technology. Whether this be initial guidance to lay the foundations of a strong IP strategy and brand, or a commercially focused review of particular aspects of your existing portfolio, GJE would be happy to assist. They understand that the world of IP can be a difficult one to navigate. These informal conversations could cover questions such as: - What steps should we take to ensure our IP portfolio is investment ready and attractive to potential investors? - What is the best approach to navigating third party IP rights and assessing our freedom to operate? - Is a particular aspect of our technology patentable and, if so, is patent protection the right option to protect our innovation? - How should we exploit other relevant forms of IP such as trade marks and design rights?
