Monthly Blog - February 2025

February 24th saw the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has had an indelible impact on international affairs, both politically, economically and for humanitarian reasons. The crisis in Gaza, however distressing, is not the only troublespot in the Middle East. The recent appointment of Donald Trump as US President has also made doing business with the USA much more complicated and uncertain. As Great Britain marks 5 years since Brexit, which has not been without its own challenges, the value of international networking and collaboration is vitally important in helping our British businesses to navigate choppy global waters and to make the most of opportunities to export our products, as well as attract inward investment and business into the UK.

Through our founder membership of the Global Cosmetic Cluster (GCC), we are able to join with clusters from all continents, to champion UK businesses, academia and technologies that are amongst the most innovative in the world. We can also shine a spotlight on the UK market and consumer trends to encourage foreign businesses to enter into the mix and diversify consumer choice. As part of this activity, we are delighted to be presenting two webinars in March on the UK market, within the Access to Global Markets series. The first webinar on March 19th focuses on market statistics, distribution channels and consumer trends and the second, on March 26th, focusses on the regulatory and practical aspects of putting a product on the market in the UK. Details can be found later in this newsletter.

As part of the GCC, we are also able to offer our members the chance to network in the dedicated GCC Pavilion at Cosmoprof Worldwide in Bologna from March 20th - 22nd, as well as networking during the in-cosmetics Global tradeshow in Amsterdam from April 8th - 10th. Not only that, we will be hosting a panel at the ChemUK exhibition on May 22nd at the NEC, exploring what beauty brands really need from the chemical supply chain, as well as being available on CCUK booth M84 for networking and enquiries.

Our Networking & International Clusters pillar is just one of the four pillars that we operate at CCUK. Under the Beauty & The Bioeconomy pillar, we are looking forward to the launch meeting on March 3rd for a collaboration with the BBIA to create a taskforce for the beauty industry. For the Research & Innovation pillar, we are finalising details on a September 9th in-person event in our Skin Mental Health and Well-being project, co-ordinated by Dr Katerina Steventon. And finally, under our Education & Skills pillar, we are delighted to host a members’ networking event at the University of Bradford on June 17th, on the education and skills theme, coinciding with our 5th anniversary celebrations. Much to look forward to! Read further in this newsletter to find details on our activities.

This month we extend a warm welcome to Summit Cosmetics Europe, BMV Alliance Ltd, and renewing members Biomara, Natural Compound Solutions and Thomas Swan.
